ABOUT CAFE-MS

For many people who have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), fatigue is a common problem that makes it hard for them to do their normal daily activities. Around 70% of people with MS experience this fatigue, and it is a big reason why MS can be disabling and emotionally challenging.

Drug treatments using medications have shown inconsistent results in research studies and can also cause unwanted side effects. However, there is evidence from some small studies that non-drug treatments may help reduce fatigue effectively and safely for people with MS. The goal of the CAFE-MS project is to conduct a large clinical trial that could help make a non-drug therapy available for fatigue in MS.

This trial will test how well two online programs work to reduce fatigue in MS. While the two online programs are different, they both have information about MS and fatigue that may help people with MS to understand and manage their fatigue better.

The project is being led by Dr. Stephanie Buxhoeveden, the Chief Scientific Officer of the Accelerated Cure Project, Inc., and Prof. Stefan Gold, a Professor of Neuropsychiatry at Charité–Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will oversee the study to ensure it meets the requirements for approval as a treatment for MS-related fatigue in the United States.
